GUEST WRITER: Klara Nordstrand - Turning health and fitness into more than a hobby

It's time for our second guest writer - Klara Nordstrand!


My name is Klara Nordstrand, I am 23 years old and I live in Kristianstad, Sweden. Things that bring me joy and inspiration are: My family, the participants at my gym classes, and my friends. My topic for this guest writing is to find inspiration in fitness, food, and to sustain a healthy lifestyle.

I hope you will enjoy this! 

I’ve always enjoyed working out. When I grew up, I took dance classes with my friends and when I got older I started working out at the gym and taking gym classes. I got in touch with the Les Mills programs when I lived in the US. BodyPump and BodyComat were my favorites (and still are). Les Mills is an international fitness company that is educating instructors to coach their fitness programs. I started as a participant and when I moved back to Sweden I chose a gym that could offer the Les Mills programs. After working out a couple of times at the gym, an instructor asked me if I wanted to become an instructor in BodyPump, and guess what my answers were? YES! A dream came true!


For me, my daily workout is my time to relax, have fun, and spend time with my friends at the gym. I’m always looking forward to going to the gym. But I also know that my body needs the rest days to recover. I’ve got to know my body very well since I started to work out regularly, so I know that I need a lot of energy to work out as much as I do. If the car got no fuel, the car cannot drive. It might sound like a cliche, but you need to find a balance. Everybody is different and that’s why you can’t compare yourself to others. I think it’s important to try many different paths in your fitness life, to know exactly how you and your body like it. When it comes to motivation, I don’t really see it as being motivated or not. I see it as a lifestyle. How do I want to feel and how can I be the best version of myself? Not only for myself but for the people around me as well. But of course, I have people around me that I use as an inspiration source. For instance, my sister and all my colleagues at the gym. They inspire me every day.

I’ve always liked it when there’s a lot going on around me. To keep everything going, and to keep my lifestyle that I just told you about, it requires a lot of planning and schedule. For the moment, I work at IKEA as a summer job but otherwise, I study Service Management Retail and have some small jobs to the side. So, it happened a lot of things since I got back from the US (I was working as an Au pair in the US for a year). I still live with my boyfriend Johannes and we just bought our first apartment together which is great! I love my life with Johannes and couldn’t wish for anything better. 



For the future, I’m very opened minded and I don’t have a strict plan really. When it comes to future jobs and career-related thoughts, I would love to work with something in line with my education. But most important, is that I like my job and that I have fun when I’m at work! My future workout wishes are just to keep working out regularly and to set up goals within the workout that motivates me at the time. In the end, I’m just glad if my workout routines can keep me healthy and happy for a little bit longer!


When thinking of my favorite or describing a perfect work out class is it really hard because I have so many good ones! But to describe a perfect scenario, I would say that the best classes are the ones that you don’t have any expectations of, or maybe you don’t even feel like work out at all. But then, the work out class turns in to a lot of fun, participants that are excited and my mood went from 0 to 100% happy. Happy participants, happy instructor. Those days literally show how working out affects your mind and body. Since I’m a Les Mills instructor, I can recommend, from the bottom of my heart, all the Les Mills programs and if you’re only doing home workouts, you can try all of them at Les Mills on Demand. I promise that you won’t get disappointed.
