Summer Writer - Anne Sofie Wraae

What makes you feel alive?'

My name is Anne Sofie and I’m really excited to share a few of my summer thoughts with you lovely people. I am a student, musician, daydreamer, songwriter, singing teacher among a lot of other things! I live in Copenhagen in Denmark, and I would like to tell you a bit about what my life and my dreams look like.

This summer I am working at a folk high school (a very Danish thing; a summer camp for grown- ups basically) where I teach singing. Spending my summer teaching and enjoying the social life here with great people, is an amazing contrast to my crazy everyday life. Crazy, because I’ve chosen to go all in on having as much music in my life as possible. Besides being an (more or less) ordinary university student at Musicology, I spend all my spare time writing songs, learning about the music industry, playing concerts, teach singing and meet up with my band.

Since I was a young girl, rocking my karaoke machine, I’ve loved performing and singing. As I got older, I started singing in a rhythmical elite choir called Mariagerfjord Pigekor (check it out on youtube!) and since then, a seed has been planted in me. I see people be using music every day in all kinds of aspects in their life; transporting themselves, at parties, when we are sad, when we are happy, when we celebrate, at weddings and so on. And little by little, I’ve come to the conclusion, that this is a way for me to try to make the world a little better. By using music to reach people and talk about what hurts and what makes you happy. So, in February I released my very first single with my solo-project Wraae. It was an absolutely crazy experience to let the world come into my secret place and somehow expose myself. Sharing my music also made me realize that it can give me new opportunities, and that people actually wanted to listen to my music. How crazy is that?

A few months later it was time for me to share music with my band, KRYD. Having two different projects makes me work hard on more aspects of the industry and give me more experience. To be honest with you, KRYD is an awesome project! We are 4 female front singers with a lot of stories to tell and a sassy yet vulnerable attitude. We started playing together a year ago and has already been playing concerts, released music and made an online showcase. It’s not easy to convince the world, that you are the new big shot. It is a journey through ups and downs, and the only thing you know for sure is that only if you keep moving on, you will reach what you dream of.

I dream of sharing my music, play great gigs, write meaningful songs, inspire and get inspired, have fun and use music to connect people. There are many different ways that each of us can make a difference, and we have to find a way to do it while making a beautiful and comfortable live for ourselves.

Thank you for reading my post and thank you for doing what you are good at! I will add some Spotify, Instagram and Facebook links here for those of you who might be interested in checking out my music at Wraae and KRYD. Have a wonderful summer <3

Hugs, Anne Sofie
